The signs and symptoms of lung cancer



The signs and symptoms of lung cancer can take years to develop and they may not appear until the disease is advanced.


  1. When airways become constricted, blocked, or inflamed, 
  2. Cough might be more painful
  3. Cough have a different sound
  4. Cough bring up colored mucus or phlegm
  5. Coughing, especially if it persists or becomes intense
  6. Pain in the chest, shoulder, or back unrelated to pain from coughing
  7. A change in color or volume of sputum
  8. Shortness of breath
  9. Changes in the voice or being hoarse voice sounds deeper, hoarse, or raspier. 
  10. Lung cancer that has spread to the bones may produce pain in the back or in other areas of the body. 
  11. Recurrent lung problems, such as bronchitis or pneumonia
  12. Coughing up phlegm or mucus, especially if it is tinged with blood
  13. Headaches may be a sign that lung cancer has spread to the brain
  14. Coughing up blood
  15. You might have pain in your chest or shoulder. It could be a dull ache or a sharper pain.
  16. Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
  17. Muscle wasting (also known as cachexia)
  18. Fatigue
  19. Headaches, bone or joint pain
  20. Bone fractures not related to accidental injury
  21. Neurological symptoms, such as unsteady gait or memory loss
  22. Neck or facial swelling
  23. General weakness
  24. Bleeding
  25. Blood clots
